A LISN, implemented here as a battery impedance network, supplies electric power to the device under test while providing a standardized impedance. It was developed for automotive testing to fulfill the requirements of ISO 21498-2:2021-03, MBN 11123:2021-08, (VW 80300:2021-02), “VOLVO Impedance Stabilization Network (VISN)”, and “TVB Electrical Quality and EMC Requirements.”

Due to the very strict specifications regarding impedance tolerance in VW 80300:2021-02 (±10%) and the physically achievable measurement uncertainty for resistance measurements in the milliohm range, a few values approach, touch, or even slightly exceed the limit line. This affects only a few measurements and is unavoidable, which is why compliance with this standard is indicated in parentheses.

The BNB 8652 B is constructed symmetrically with two paths: HV+ and HV-. The built-in components have no specific polarity; in particular, the capacitors are non-polarized. The paths are isolated from the housing. A foil capacitor with very low equivalent series resistance (ESR) is used.

It is also possible to inject disturbance voltages. Inside the housing, the BNB 8652 B can be reconfigured from LISN functionality to coupling functionality (BNB-CN) by changing the wiring connections.

A battery can be simulated by various internal resistors. There are five selectable values: 2 × 100 mΩ, 2 × 60 mΩ, 2 × 50 mΩ, 2 × 25 mΩ, and 2 × 10 mΩ (one resistor in each path).

The self-inductance between the resistance connections on the EUT side is no more than 0.5 μH.

Options:

  • Option BNB-CN: Coupling function according to the specifications of “MBN 11123-343.”
The coupling network operates via two coupling transformers at HV+ and HV- inside the BNB 8652 B housing. It is designed to allow the LFPA 9733 C to couple the desired levels (±15 Vpeak) in the range of 10 Hz to 150 kHz.
4x safety banana jacks (“Transformer HV+/-“) are provided on the housing (on the DuT side) for this purpose, enabling the signals from the LFPA 9733 B to be coupled in.
The maximum current for operating the BNB as a coupling network is 80 A.
Inside the housing, it is possible to switch between the LISN function and the coupling function of the BNB 8652 B.
